Hi Peter,
Never took the time to get back to you.
Chad took good care of me. I have to order more heads from him soon.
I have tried the concert and stadium models. Though I only have two concert heads,
both 14", I found them inconsistent. One is completely dry, which I don't like,
while the other has some ring to it.
I love the stadiums. You may consider the overtones obnoxious,(ref. Mod. Drummer
article) but I love it. In the last year I have gone from calfskin to Aquarian
Vintage, to Remo Renassance, to Aquarian Double thins, to Bear. Nothing replaces
the calfskin, but the Bear stadiums come the closest. The stick response is the
best I have found of any synthetic head. It is a little harder and quicker than
calf, but thats fine with me. Calf has it's own warmth and tone, so we will let
the rest go.
Compared to synthetic heads, Bear is the winner, no contest.
I have found that warm, round tones are best produced by two ply heads, but you
lose some attack. Single ply, give attack at the expense of full tone.
The Bear heads give a great, warm round tone, with all the attack and sustain I
desire. They are as easy to tune as calf or Aquarians. They are durable. I play in
a loud rock band. We do Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Cream, Judas Priest, and
Arrowsmith covers among others. The guys in the band play loud. I play unmiked and
have to keep up. The stadium heads after a month show almost no wear.
I have an "A" set for playing out, and a "B" set for rehersals. I can put the
heads on the "B" set, with suspect bearing edges, and they tune up great.
Most important, the band loves the sound of the heads.
Both my sets are 50's/60's double bass Slingerland.
Keep making the great product.
Chris Buck

PETER,
Just wanted to let you know I played my gig with your heads on Sat. night
at Brooklyn, New York's LAMOURS'. We opened up for White Lion's Mike Tramp.
My kit never sounded so thunderous! I used the stadium heads and Concert
heads for my kicks. These are the first heads to truly handle the wallop of
T. MOTTS. At your leisure, please check out my band's website at WWW. ATELLO.
COM I will be putting up your heads on my equipment page soon. Keep up the
excellent work and I wish you guys much success!

Peter,

When I put on the Studio drum head that you sent me, instantly I was amazed. My snare never
sounded so awesome.

This is the sound that I have been looking for!

I played it non-stop for about an hour. My only problem is now my toms really sound like hell.
Can I get heads for these as well? I have 12", 13", 14" 15" toms. 22" bass.

If the toms sound as great as the snare, I'll never use another head!

Thanks again,
Vinny

Thanks you Peter,
Hey , this is Steve Longoria, and you just sent me that concert 22" head,
and I just love it man! It's exactly what I was looking for, It has great
volume and low punch, I love your concert like for my snare and bass. I was
wanting to know what you mean when you describe the stadiums heads as having
all of the obnoxious overtones of mylar, does that mean it has real annoying
buzz noises? or what? please let me know, but thanks for the great heads!

happy customer,
Steve Longoria

Hi. I received my 14" stadium snare head in the mail just the other
day. I don't know what to say about it. I have never ever ( and I've
been playing drums for almost 20 years now, and I'm only 21) put a snare
head on my 61/2x14 maple GMS snare and had it sound as beautiful as it
did tonight. And even better yet, I pounded the you know what out of
that thing to give it a little 'test drive,' and it didn't detune, dent,
and sounded just as good if not even better than when it was fresh out
of the box. I would like to say thank you very much. You guys have
probably saved me hundreds of dollars in heads that I would normally use
and would last 1/16 as long, if not less. I have 4 shows this weekend,
and I'm looking very forward to two things. First. seeing how well it
holds up. And second, not really having to worry about it wearing out
or detuning, which makes me a more confident player. I will definitely
be trying out more of your products in the future, and am also
interesting in being a Bearhead endorsee. I can send you a press
kit/promo pack if you are at all interested. Please let me know, your
product is the best thing that I've come across in years.

Thank You
Nick Larsen

Peter,

Chap Ostrander was kind enough to pass along one of your heads for me to
try out. I have had it on several orchestral drums and it sounds and
feels great. It has the most calf-like feel of any non-calf head I have
ever played on.(Does that sentence make sense?) It is very responsive
and really lets the drum sound. I have also taken it around to several
Broadway shows, and all the drummers have loved it.

I played your head with the New York Pops over the weekend in Carnegie Hall. Everone in the section loved it

You have an incredible product. I wish you all the best.

Pete,
I just wanted to let you know that I've been beating my heads to death and they're holding up even better than I expected. I (just like everyone else familiar with your products) am amazed at the way the heads sound and perform. Since I play in a metalternative band, I'm always looking for something that can take a beating, and create the tones and volume I'm looking for to cut through the heavy distortion of the guitars. I've had quite a few curious people approach me after our shows about what the heck I'm using for heads. They really do have a distinct sound and appearance, so even when people just see them on my kit, I get questions about them. I'm spreading the word as much as possible, and I'm really glad I've gotten the chance to be a part of Bear Percussion! Much appreciation from this end,

Pete,
Night one of the tour: Sound check time: I have everything tuned up and ready to go. I'm prepared to go through the usual, long and boring, process of getting drum sounds. One drum at a time. Play the whole kit please. Can you hit the bass some again? The same old blah, blah, blah that all drummers have to go through, right. No. After less than five minutes the sound guys said thanks, can I have the guitar please. These drum heads are amazing!!!! I was on the road for a month and played over 20 gigs (not counting rehearsals), I still have the same set of heads on my kit, and my kit still sounds great! These heads seem to get better with time cause I took the same set of head into to the studio right after I got back from the tour. Guess what? 5 MINUTE SOUND CHECK!!!!!!!! This is in the studio. I couldn't believe it so I went in to have a listen. Sure enough, they sounded smokin! The engineer told me my kit was one of the easiest kits he had ever worked with. I still haven't changed my heads and I have no plans too. These heads sound better with each gig. Because of you my drums sound better and I don't have to worry about my drum heads. You guys are great.I'm happy as hell to be a part of the Bear Percussion family!!

Subject: What's up?

Peter,
Hey man, check this out! I just took the drums out of the massive road box and I can't believe that after like 60, 2 hour shows long drum solos and all the rehersals, that these heads still have life to them! I played the same heads since June, and you saw that house of blues gig and you know how hard I play and the dymamic range of that show! The comments on the tone of the drums came in nightly! Ronnie Montrose is a strong, intense, emotional player and he really listens and feeds off the drums. . He's played with a lot of great drummers like Tony Williams, Steve Smith, Denny Carmassi, and he can hear if you're holding back and notices every nuance of the sound. With the stadium heads I was able to play as intense or as sensitive as necessary with him and not worry about dings or breaks or any other problems associated with conventional drum heads. This is important when you are playing unison lines on the toms along with the guitar and keyboards . Picture this.... you walk out on stage , everyone is screaming, you kick into an uptemo driving tune , you dig in , the emotion level is high , adrenaline rush , you drive hard from the 8" tom all the way to the 16" floor tom , your kickin everyones ass in the room and they're loving it ! Next tune you look at your kit and there is big craters dug into the heads, so the rest of the gig you suffer, change the heads and tomorrow you hold back so you don't thrash your heads. THIS WAS LIFE BEFORE BEAR HEADS! Now picture the same scene only after that first song your drums still sound great , you go to the oposite dynamic range , barely tapping the drums and they sing out , no loss of tone, resonance or responce . They survived those long drum solos too and stayed in tune every step of the way ! It was a pleasure to have the heads along this summer and my tech Steve Hall loved not having to change the heads night after night ! I encourage drummers everywhere to give these heads a shot. It's been plastic heads forever and yeah they sound great and there are a load of them out there . Plastic heads will not go away , who would want them to ? But the wise player in todays music will offer options in his sound and for me BEAR offers just what I wanted . Tone , Durability , and great artist support. I approach the stage like a living art exhibit and only bear has the strength and sensitivity I need to get through all the gears ! For that and your great vibes as a person I cant thank you enough !

Thanks Again !

Hey,
Its GREAT to hear from you. All is well in my neck of the woods. The tour went well, and the band got lots of exposure. I am enjoying my work at Mars. Hopefully we will get some stock from you guys in our stores. How is business with you? I am still playing your heads on my kit. They worked great on my tour, and they really are holding up. Are there any new things in the works? Keep in touch.

Sincerely,

Barry Kerch

Hello Peter,
...boy can you make an entrance...The heads got here tonight (thanks) about 15 minutes before I had to leave to host the open mike night (hundreds of heavy handed thrashing drummers happy to beat on someone else's kit ) We set up quickly and I had 5 minutes to change all the heads 12" 13" 16" and a 20" kick. I finished just in time didn't even have time to tune them & they were masterful!!! They made the biggest difference. I was about to have the boys at reseruction drums (whom you were sending that 14 inch Stadium snare head) build me a kit as my 1969 Slingerland kit was a little too high pitched for my taste not so any more. Thanks. The shirts are great as well please send me a dealer price list (if you don't mind ) I have a business license I would love to have the chance to sell these things I'm all over the internet buying and selling let me at em. People need to know about this stuff thanks these are the best single change I've ever made to a drum and i've been playing since 1963.

Brian

Peter,
I'll try the stretching method but i gotta tell ya when we miked it, it was the best ever we had a bunch of drummers there last night and everyone said even unsolicitated that they loved the heads the superior rebound on the kick allowed me to play more complicated bass patterns. I figure these heads saved me about $2000.00 as now my kit sounds like I always wanted it to but was sure it never would so I don't have to replace the kit. I'm sure the guys at Ressurection drumsare gonna hate me for that :-) but I bet I can sell them some heads...Who Is your rep in this or any other territory? Hmmmmm you know I am a rep for a living ,right?

Subject: Simply awesome!!

Hello,

My name is Steve Elias and I am with the San Diego power metal band"Violent Mood Swing". I recently purchased a 14" Concert head from you guys and it came in a couple of days ago. I pulled it out of the box andI admit I was a little skeptical at first because it seemed really thin compared to the Reme Falams head. Anyway, I put it on and tuned it up.To say I was impressed would be an understatement. At rehearsal, my band cringed every time I hit a rimshot. Last night we headlined a local showat one of the bigger clubs out here with a good sized PA. I have somewhat of a reputation locally as having a very loud snare. My drumtech was standing near the sound board and after my kit was miked up I started to play on the snare. My tech leaned over to the soundman and said the snare could come down some. The soundman replied,"That mike isn't even on yet!!". After years of trying every new head that comes out, I finally found one that does what I need it to do.I would very much like to be an endorser for your company.I am currently endorsing Trueline drumsticks and Blokhed rack systems. Is there a contact name and address I can send a promo kit too? Please e-mil me at you earliest convenience.

Thanks!
Steve Elias
